Removing or Disconnecting Accounts
Need to clean up your account list? Whether you've closed an account, sold an asset, or just want a fresh start, here's how to remove accounts from Nova.
How to Remove an Account
- Go to your Dashboard and find the account you want to remove.
- Click on the account name to open its detail view.
- Click the More Options menu (three dots) or the Delete button.
- Confirm the removal when prompted.
What Happens When You Remove an Account
- The account disappears from your Dashboard and stops counting toward your net worth.
- Historical data is preserved — your net worth chart will still reflect past balances from that account, so your history stays accurate.
- For Plaid-connected accounts, removing the account also disconnects the Plaid link. Nova will no longer receive balance updates from that institution.
Disconnecting vs. Removing
They're the same thing in Nova. When you remove a connected account, the Plaid connection is disconnected automatically. You don't need to do anything separately at your bank — Plaid handles the cleanup.
When to Remove Accounts
- Closed accounts — If you've closed a bank account or paid off a loan, remove it to keep your Dashboard clean.
- Sold assets — Sold your car or a property? Remove the manual account.
- Duplicates — Accidentally added the same account twice? Remove the extra.
- Starting over — You can remove everything and reconnect from scratch if you prefer.
Can I Undo a Removal?
Removing an account is permanent — but you can always re-add it. For bank accounts, just go through the Plaid connection flow again. For manual accounts, add a new one with the current balance.
