Adding Manual Accounts
Not everything lives at a bank. Nova lets you manually track assets and liabilities that can't be connected through Plaid — things like your home, car, crypto holdings, or that loan from Uncle Steve.
How to Add a Manual Account
- From your Dashboard, click Add Account (or the + button).
- Select Add Manual Account.
- Choose an account type from the list (see below for all options).
- Give it a name — something you'll recognize, like "House on Elm St" or "Bitcoin Holdings."
- Enter the current value or balance.
- Click Save and it's added to your net worth.
Common Manual Account Types
- Real Estate — Track your home, rental properties, or land. Enter the current estimated market value.
- Vehicles — Cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats — anything with a resale value.
- Cryptocurrency — Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other crypto. Enter your total holdings value.
- Other Assets — Jewelry, art, collectibles, business equity, cash on hand — anything of value.
- Other Liabilities — Personal loans, money owed, or debts not tied to a bank.
Keeping Balances Current
Manual accounts don't auto-update like bank connections, so you'll want to update the balance periodically — once a month is a good rhythm for most people. Just click the account, edit the value, and save.
Nova will prompt you if a manual account hasn't been updated in a while, so nothing slips through the cracks.
Why Manual Accounts Matter
Your net worth isn't just your bank balance. For most people, their home and vehicles are their biggest assets. Adding these gives you (and Charlie) a much more complete picture of your financial health.
