How We Protect Your Data
Your financial data is sensitive, and we treat it that way. Nova uses multiple layers of security to ensure your information stays private and protected.
Encryption
All data stored by Nova is encrypted using bank-level 256-bit AES encryption — the same standard used by major financial institutions. Data in transit is protected with TLS 1.3, so your information is secure whether it's being stored or transferred.
Plaid Security
Nova connects to your bank accounts through Plaid, a trusted financial data platform used by thousands of apps including Venmo, Robinhood, and Coinbase.
- Read-only access: Nova can only view your account balances and transactions. We can never move money, make transfers, or modify your accounts.
- No credential storage: Your bank login details are entered directly into Plaid's secure interface. Nova never sees or stores your banking passwords.
- SOC 2 Type II certified: Plaid undergoes rigorous third-party security audits to verify their data protection practices.
What We Never Do
- Sell your data. Your financial information is yours. We will never sell, rent, or share it with advertisers or third parties.
- Store bank credentials. Your login details go directly to Plaid — they never touch our servers.
- Access more than needed. We request only the minimum permissions required to calculate your net worth.
Infrastructure Security
Nova's infrastructure includes:
- Encrypted database backups
- Role-based access controls for our team
- Regular security reviews and dependency audits
- Automated monitoring for suspicious activity
We believe transparency builds trust. If you ever have questions about how your data is handled, we're an open book.
