Editing accounts

Editing Account Details
Life changes, and your accounts should keep up. Nova makes it easy to rename accounts, change their type, or update balances whenever you need to.
How to Edit an Account
- Go to your Dashboard and find the account you want to edit.
- Click on the account name to open its detail view.
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon).
- Make your changes and click Save.
What You Can Edit
Account Name
Plaid-connected accounts come in with default names from your bank (like "PLATINUM CHECKING 4821"). Rename them to something friendlier — "Main Checking" is a lot easier to scan on your Dashboard.
Account Type
If Nova categorized an account incorrectly, you can change its type. This affects how it shows up in your Asset Allocation and how Charlie factors it into your Health Score. For example, if a brokerage account was tagged as "banking," switching it to "investments" gives you a more accurate breakdown.
Balance (Manual Accounts)
For manual accounts like real estate, vehicles, or crypto, click in and update the current value anytime. We recommend updating manual balances at least once a month to keep your net worth accurate.
Things to Know
- Connected accounts sync balances automatically — you can't manually override those. If a balance looks wrong, try refreshing the connection or check with your bank.
- Renaming an account doesn't affect the bank connection — it's just a display label in Nova.
- Changing the account type will immediately update your asset allocation chart and may shift your Health Score.
Keeping your accounts tidy helps Charlie give you better insights and makes your Dashboard easier to read at a glance.
