Sync Delays
Nova syncs your connected accounts automatically, but sometimes there can be a delay between a transaction at your bank and it appearing in your dashboard. Here's why that happens and what you can do.
Why Accounts Might Be Delayed
- Bank processing times: Most banks send updated data to Plaid once or twice per day, not in real time. It's normal for new transactions to appear 12–24 hours after they occur.
- Plaid processing: After your bank sends data, Plaid processes and delivers it to Nova. This usually adds minutes, but can occasionally take longer during peak periods.
- Weekends and holidays: Many banks don't process updates on weekends or federal holidays, which can extend delays to 1–3 days.
- Pending transactions: Some banks don't report pending transactions through their data feeds. You may not see a charge until it fully posts.
Manual Refresh
Don't want to wait for the next automatic sync? You can trigger a manual refresh:
- Go to your Dashboard
- Click the Refresh icon (↻) near your accounts
- Nova will request the latest data from Plaid
Note: A manual refresh requests fresh data from your bank, but if your bank hasn't updated their feed yet, the balances will remain the same. This isn't a Nova limitation — it's how bank data feeds work.
Sync Schedule
Nova ($9.99/mo) syncs your accounts once per day. SuperNova ($19.99/mo) subscribers get real-time sync for up-to-the-minute balance updates.
When to Be Concerned
If an account hasn't updated in more than 48 hours on a business day:
- Check if the account has a connection error (look for a warning icon)
- Try reconnecting the account
- If the issue persists, contact us with your bank name and we'll investigate
