How do I connect my bank account?

Go to Accounts → Add Account → Choose "Connect with Plaid". Select your bank from 20,000+ institutions and securely link your account. Your credentials are never stored by Nova - Plaid handles authentication securely.

How does subscription detection work?

Nova analyzes your transaction history to detect recurring payments. We look for patterns in timing (weekly, monthly, yearly) and amounts. Subscriptions require at least 3 transactions from the same merchant with 70%+ confidence to appear.

Is my financial data secure?

Absolutely! We use bank-level security:

  • AES-256 encryption for all data
  • TLS/SSL encryption in transit
  • We NEVER store your bank login credentials
  • Encrypted access tokens only
  • SOC 2 compliant third-party services

How often does my data sync?

Plaid-connected accounts update in real-time via webhooks. We also run a daily sync at 2 AM. Manual accounts update when you edit them. You can manually sync anytime using the "Sync All" button.

Can I export my data?

Yes! Nova offers multiple export options:

  • CSV export for all accounts, transactions, and goals
  • PDF reports with charts and summaries
  • Export from any page with data

Look for the "Export" button in the top-right of most pages.

What asset types can I track?

Nova supports all major asset classes:

Assets:

  • Cash & checking
  • Savings accounts
  • Investments
  • Retirement (401k, IRA)
  • Real estate
  • Vehicles
  • Cryptocurrency

Liabilities:

  • Credit cards
  • Personal loans
  • Mortgages

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Manage Account. Click "Delete Account" and confirm. All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

⚠️ This action cannot be undone. Consider exporting your data first.

Why isn't my account syncing?

Common reasons:

  • Bank requires re-authentication: Security policies may require periodic re-linking. Click "Reconnect" on the account.
  • Bank is down: Some banks have maintenance windows. Try again later.
  • Changed password: Update your bank password and reconnect.
  • Account closed: Remove closed accounts from Nova.
